MYANENERGY 2020 MARKET UPDATE: MYANMAR’S 2020 PROGRESS FOR NATIONWIDE POWER

As part of its participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Myanmar has opened up for investments in construction for more electricity generation in 2020. From Rakhine to Kachin, Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have begun constructing power projects in hopes of raising Myanmar’s electricity generation capacity by at least 3,500 MW within 1-3 years. This in turn coincides with the development of the 3 China-Myanmar Economic Corridors.

YANGON GOVERNMENT INKS US$750 MILLION CONCESSION AGREEMENT WITH MALAYSIAN CONGLOMERATE

Yangon’s regional government has signed a concession agreement worth US$750 million with BDS Smart City Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Berjaya Land Berhad (BLand), one of the largest conglomerates in Malaysia to develop a housing and mixed-use project in Myanmar’s commercial hub, Yangon. BLand estimates the total development cost of the project to come up to US$614.9 million. Situated in the corner of Myanandar Road and Shwe Li Road, in the Dagon Seikkan Township, the Project comprises of 12 parcels of vacant development land measuring in total area of about 183 acres.
